Youth Connection Theatre Experience: Shrek, Jr.

Youth Connection is delighted to announce this year’s first-ever combined Highcrest Middle School and Wilmette Junior High School musical theater production. This program provides both HMS and WJHS students who are interested in performing or in the technical aspects of theatre with an opportunity to work on the production of a live musical theatre performance, all in the comfort of Wilmette Junior High School.

This spring, Youth Connection is presenting the musical “Shrek, Jr.” at WJHS. The musical will be performed in the WJHS auditorium on:

Friday, March 17th & Saturday, March 18th at 7:00 p.m.
Sunday, March 19th at 2:00

An abbreviated (45-60 minute) version of the show will also be performed for Trinity Church Nursery School at 4:30 pm on Monday, March 20th.

Auditions for the cast will be in the WJHS auditorium on:

Monday, November 28th & Tuesday, November 29th
7th and 8th grade students – 3-4:00pm
5th and 6th grade students – 4-5:00pm

Callbacks for actors will take place in the auditorium after school on Wednesday, November 30th from 3-5:30pm. (Highcrest students can join after school dismissal.) For information about what to prepare for the auditions, please complete the form below and the director, Robert Bierie, will send you rehearsal information based on the role (s) you would like to audition for.  Be sure to bring the completed, signed AUDITION PACKET along with participation fees to the audition.

CREW APPLICATIONS can be turned in to the main office at WJHS or in the Den after school. Crew members should plan to attend callbacks on Wednesday, November 30th from 3-5:30 pm.

Our first rehearsal and PARENT INFORMATION SESSION will be on Monday, December 5th. Although there will be auditions in order to cast the show, all students interested in performing in the cast (or participating on the crew) will be allowed to participate!

No prior theatre experience is needed to participate!

All rehearsals will take place at WJHS. The crew & cast application packets list all of the rehearsal dates that your child is expected to attend. Participants must commit to attending all of the scheduled rehearsals.

The budget for this production of Shrek, Jr comes in part from student participation fees. The fee for participating in the show is $275 for cast members and $200 for crew members and is due at the time of the audition/crew sign-up on November 28th and 29th. Parts cannot be assigned to students without payment receipt.  Payment can be made online (below) or with a check turned in on the audition date.
